Everton have taken a significant risk with their signing of Jack Grealish on loan from Man City.
That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley, who told Football Insider exclusively that the 29-year-old was now “in the very top earners” at the Hill Dickinson.
The England international made a fast start to life in Manchester and was an integral part of their historic treble winning season in the 2022/23 campaign.
But in recent years the winger has struggled to get into City’s starting XI, let alone have a significant impact.
Grealish was left out of Man City’s Club World Cup squad this summer, and has since joined Everton on loan.
However, the Toffees are contributing a sizeable chunk of the former Aston Villa man’s wages in a bid to continue growing.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley explained that he was surprised that Everton were paying 75% (£225,000) of Grealish’s £300,000-a-week wages [The Athletic].
However, the finance expert believes that the deal could end up being a “very good bit of money spent” if the Toffees enjoy a strong season.
Plumley said: “It’s a statement of intent, for sure.
“I didn’t expect them to go that high.

“It probably puts him in the very top earners of that club, but they are moving forward and looking to grow and build.
“Making statements like that are the start of something there, and it’ll be interesting to see how they start the season, and how he fits into that team.
“He’s a talented player, so it could be a very good bit of money spent in the context of the season when all’s said and done.
“But I was surprised they were contributing that much towards it.
“I think that’s, as I said, a real statement that they’re prepared to spend on player wages here and try and improve on the pitch.”
From one former Villain to a current one, Everton retain an interest in signing John McGinn, former Toffees CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider.
David Moyes’ side had a bid of £18million [Sky Sports] rejected at the beginning of August.

However, Wyness believes that Everton’s manager will be pushing for his side to return with an improved offer for Villa’s captain.
Newcastle also hold an interest in McGinn and the Scotland international has two years remaining on his current deal at Villa Park.
