'I was told': Journalist explains the real reason why Milos Kerkez to Liverpool has hit a new delay

Liverpool are closing in on the signings of their top targets.

The Reds’ transfer window has been a rather strange one so far and certainly rather different to the usual ones.

Instead of being linked with a wide variety of different targets but not actually making any moves, the strategy this year appears to be to select a small few and go all out to get them.

It looks like it is working too as Jeremie Frimpong was signed quickly and efficiently, while Florian Wirtz is set for his medical on Friday, putting to bed a drawn-out saga.

Milos Kerkez, on the other hand, looks like a confusing one.

The Hungarian was rumoured to be joining at a similar time to Wirtz, but progression has been slow of late, at least publicly that is.

The reasoning for this was not exactly clear until now, with one journalist finally explaining why, what looked like a straightforward deal, has been taking so long.

Transfers are not as simple as many people may think and there are loads of factors affecting the speed of any deal.

However, at around £40m, this is one of the smaller pieces of business Liverpool have done this summer and will probably do for quite a while, leaving many wondering why it has taken so long.

Journalist Lewis Steele has revealed the reason for this, with legal matters being why it may take some time.

“I’ve been waiting to put this video out and I just can’t be bothered anymore, it’s going on forever,” Steele said on his YouTube channel.

“I was told that there was a little legal issue, nothing to worry about, but a little legal issue may be holding it up.

I was told that by a good source, but I’ve not really checked it out to validate it.”

Kerkez has been told to reconsider his move to Liverpool in recent weeks and that would have been a worry for fans, but now it seems it is a legal issue holding things up instead of a feeling of regret from the player.

Kerkez desperately wants to be a Liverpool player and the feeling is that this will still be done, the matter of the legal issue is just a small bump in the road.

Many clubs will purely focus on how a player performs on the pitch and the potential they may have, but Liverpool certainly look a lot deeper.

They even go as far as analysing the personality of a player to see how they would fit into the team cohesion, with it looking like they have done the same with Kerkez.

Steele confirmed in the same update that he has only been told positive things about the 21-year-old and that it is clear why Liverpool are desperate to get him.

“I would say that those words, passion and eagerness come up an awful lot with everyone I’ve spoken to about Kerkez,” Steele revealed.

“I spoke to someone from the local paper at Bournemouth and he said he’s similar to Andy Robertson and a very nice guy.”

With Robertson potentially on his way to Atletico Madrid, he needs to pass the baton on to someone and Kerkez looks to be the perfect fit.
