'I will': Federico Chiesa hints at whether he's leaving Liverpool after scoring dramatic Bournemouth winner

Liverpool left it very late to beat Bournemouth on the opening night of the new Premier League season on Friday.

The Reds were unconvincing for large swathes of the game against the Cherries, but found themselves 2-0 up with much of the second half still to play.

With Anfield perhaps wrongly feeling as though the job was done, Bournemouth did not.

Antoine Semenyo scored twice as Andoni Iraloa’s side fought back in style.

But Liverpool often find a way at Anfield, and they were not done yet.

In a brilliant moment, Federico Chiesa, so often underused by Arne Slot, came up trumps with a stunning volley.

Chiesa has been heavily linked with an exit after failing to make an impact during his debut season with the club.

But after kicking off the new campaign with a bang, the Italian has hinted that he may well be staying after all.

Since Liverpool parted ways with Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, the conversation has been around whether Slot has enough attackers at his disposal.

Throughout those discussions, many supporters have overlooked Chiesa as even being an option, such has been the surety that he would leave.

But football has a funny way of working, and when Slot threw the 27-year-old on with just minutes left to play on Friday, it felt inevitable that it would be he who found a way back in front.

And with his heroics done and dusted, Chiesa was asked after the game what the next two weeks may hold in the transfer market.

“I’m very happy at Liverpool!” he said via journalist Fabrizio Romano.

“I will speak to the club but I want to stay here and fight to win many trophies.”

As well as Chiesa himself, Slot was asked during his post-match press conference to give his views on the potential of his No.

And that is always positive for your future at a club,” said the Liverpool head coach via journalist Lewis Steele.

“The fans sang for him so many times.

The atmosphere, wow wow wow.”

It remains to be seen whether Chiesa’s moment in front of the Kop is a way to kickstart his time at Liverpool or simply a moment to remember as a goodbye.

Either way, it’s one every supporter – and the player himself – will remember for a very long time.
