Liverpool fans were thrown into a frenzy this week after fresh reports linked Kevin De Bruyne with a surprise move to Anfield.
Respected journalist Ian Doyle (via Liverpool Echo) has poured cold water on those rumors.
According to Doyle, “Liverpool have not made an offer to sign Kevin De Bruyne this summer.” That’s right — no contract, no talks, no dramatic unveiling at the Kop.
Not yet, at least.
De Bruyne, who turns 34 in June, will become a free agent after a glittering 10-year run with City.
Yet Liverpool, despite De Bruyne’s boyhood support of the Reds, are reportedly looking elsewhere to strengthen their squad.
And yes, De Bruyne has openly said in the past: “My favorite club is Liverpool and my favorite player is Michael Owen.”
He even doubled down years later, saying he grew up a Liverpool fan thanks to his family in England.
If there’s a late twist, Liverpool fans won’t mind dusting off their Owen shirts one bit.
