Ian Wright has summed up the mood around Liverpool at the moment, discussing the "heartbreaking" scene that played out between Jürgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah.

Wright's old side Arsenal then beat Spurs the following day, at least confirming Klopp will sign off having restored Champions League football to Anfield, but it means that there will be effectively nothing to play for in his final three games.

Even just seeing the initial exchange before Salah came on, there was a feeling that this is not how things were supposed to end for Klopp.



And Wright got an even stronger sense of that after the full-time whistle was blown.

“It’s horrible the way it’s ending,” Wright said on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

Mo Salah and Jürgen Klopp, there was a sadness to that.

“Especially when the game ended and there was a close up on Mo walking off, he went to shake David Moyes’s hand, and Jürgen Klopp was walking there too and they never even looked at each other.

“I think that when you look at what that club have done under that manager with that player, for it to be now where Klopp is leaving at the end of the season, Salah is a little bit of form, and now they’re not talking, it’s heartbreaking.”

Klopp played down the issue after the match.

Liverpool is planning for next season with Salah on board, having received no indication he wants to leave, meaning Arne Slot can expect to work with the Egyptian.

You can apportion the blame any way you like, but more than anything else, this whole scene was just sad.

Between them, Salah and Klopp have achieved so much together at Liverpool.
