A recent update from Arsenal could go on to affect Ibrahima Konate's future at Liverpool.

Konate has played a vital role in Liverpool winning the Premier League title this season, forming a formidable partnership with Reds captain Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool signed Konate from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 on a five-year contract.



That deal is now set to expire at the end of next season, with speculation already swirling about the France international's future.

Reports in recent weeks have claimed that Real Madrid are expressing an interest in signing Konate as a free agent next summer.

A fresh report from The Athletic may create some concern for Liverpool going forward.

The report has claimed that Arsenal have now opened talks to extend William Saliba's contract at the club.

The centre-back is under contract with the Gunners until 2027 but, like Konate, has also been linked with a move to Real Madrid over the last few months.

Arsenal are reported to be keen to hand Saliba a new deal and stop a move for the defender to Madrid from happening.

If this was to transpire, Madrid would likely be forced to seek an alternative target if they can't sign Saliba in the next 12 months.

As a result, Saliba signing a new contract at Arsenal may force Madrid to pursue a deal for Konate instead.

The ECHO reported back in October that Liverpool have opened talks with Konate over signing a new contract with the club.

Liverpool are already losing one of their star players this summer on a free transfer, with Trent Alexander-Arnold already confirming that he will leave Anfield when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Alexander-Arnold is poised to join Madrid as a free agent when his contract at Liverpool runs out.

Although, the La Liga giants have made an effort to try and sign the Reds vice-captain before his deal expires in order to have Alexander-Arnold available to feature at the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.
