Real Madrid have reportedly reacted after Liverpool demanded a huge fee for French defender Ibrahima Konate this summer.
The Spanish giants might want to sign another defender after completing the deal for Dean Huijsen in May.
Konate has been in Florentino Perez’s long-term plans, with reports suggesting they aim to sign him for free in 2026.
The 26-year-old’s current contract at Liverpool runs until 2026.
Reports suggest he’s unhappy at the Merseyside club as he has already rejected two offers to extend his contract.
Konate might be unhappy with his wages, as he earns around £70k per week, significantly lower than many of his teammates.
This could be a key reason he wants to leave as a free agent when his deal expires.
Santiago Bernabeu might be the Frenchman’s preferred destination, especially as he may want to follow in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s footsteps.
However, after Real Madrid were defeated 4-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final, Xabi Alonso might want to add another player to his backline.

According to Diario AS, Liverpool have offered Konate to Real Madrid for around €50m.
Still, the Spanish club were reportedly shocked by the valuation and are only willing to pay between €20m and €25m for the 26-year-old defender.
Liverpool are also aware that Real Madrid are in no rush, as they know they could get Konate for free in 2026.
The Merseyside club now have a decision to make.
