Ibrahima Konate’s situation at Liverpool is one that may be starting to worry the club.

There is increasing fear that Konate could follow in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold and move to Real Madrid next summer.

Whilst Liverpool sanctioned a deal of £10m with Los Blancos to allow Alexander-Arnold to terminate his contract early and feature for his new club in the Club World Cup, that was under unusual circumstances and there will be no such option for Konate next summer, who will leave on a free if Liverpool don’t manage to extend his contract at the club.

The French defender is yet to sign an extension since joining in 2021 and has now entered the last year of his current deal, with talks stalling over a potential new deal for the player.

The 26-year-old was a key member of Liverpool’s title-winning team, starting 30 times on route to clinching the Premier League trophy.

A player Liverpool do not want to let go, but in the ever-increasing likelihood that Konate will look to run down his deal and leave on a free next summer, Liverpool have reportedly set an asking price for the defender in an attempt to cash in on the defender this summer instead.

According to AS, Liverpool have set Ibrahima Konate’s asking price at 50 million euros, or around £43.2m, and despite him potentially leaving for nothing next summer, they will still be after that figure to let him go before his deal runs out, as that is how much they view him to be worth in the current transfer market.

Ibrahima Konate will be free to hold talks with foreign clubs from January onwards, and with the Frenchman being a long-term target for Real Madrid, Liverpool are beginning to worry.

According to the report, despite the acquisition of Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth this summer, Real Madrid still view the renew operation of their defence to be incomplete, and Ibrahima Konate is at the top of their list.

As a result, if Konate does express his desire to leave the club, Liverpool will look for a potential destination for the defender before it is too late.

The possibility of Ibrahima Konate following a similar storyline to Trent Alexander-Arnold is a real one and Liverpool will be hoping the central defender writes a different ending to his tale.

But as of now, it is not looking promising.
