Ibrahima Konate finds himself at the centre of mounting speculation over his Anfield future, with Real Madrid leading the charge for his signature amid growing concerns that the French defender’s focus may already be elsewhere.

The 26-year-old centre-back has entered the final year of his Liverpool contract without agreeing to an extension, despite multiple attempts by the club to secure his long-term commitment to the club.

With Real Madrid reportedly prepared to offer him a lucrative deal running until 2031, the situation bears uncomfortable similarities to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure earlier this year.

The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana has already reported that Real Madrid “feel” Konate wants to play for them.

The Spanish giants view the French international as an ideal long-term replacement for aging defenders Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba, both of whom could depart next summer.

All of the speculation has coincided with a poor opening two games for the Reds defender.

Against Bournemouth on opening day, Konate was heavily criticised for his failure to close down Antoine Semenyo for the equalising goa

The struggles continued against Newcastle United, where Konate was beaten in the air by Dan Burn for the Magpies’ second goal, despite being in a good defensive position.

Jamie Carragher was particularly scathing in his assessment, stating that Konate “has been all over the place”.

However, against Arsenal and Burnley the Frenchman appeared to be in better shape.

And it seems that the 26-year-old has now hit out at those critcising him.

@liverpoolfcfanpage on Instagram posted an image with the caption:

“If Konate plays like he has in the last two games for the rest of the season I’ll have no issue wishing him well if he decides to leave at the end of the season, top draw.”

“Would love us to renew him but feels unlikely.”

And Konate, seemingly rubbed up the wrong way from all the criticism, commented:

“The Problem is some of you forget to quick… only After 2 Games” with a few laughing emojis and clapping emoijs.”

It seems to be a direct response to the criticism following the Burnley and Bournemouth wins.

Meanwhile, reports from Spain this Tuesday asserted that Real Madrid could be willing to pay 40 million euros for the Frenchman.
