The latest report from Spain has revealed the decision Ibrahima Konate has taken on his Liverpool future.
The French defender has entered the final year of his contract with Real Madrid circling, and reports indicate that the Anfield hierarchy is growing increasingly anxious.
Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid this summer, and the club are keen to avoid a repeat of that scenario with Konate.
However, a recent report from Spanish publication Marca claimed that Real Madrid have earmarked Konate as a prime target in their ongoing strategy of pursuing players in the final year of their contracts, much like they did with Alexander-Arnold, Antonio Rüdiger, and David Alaba.
According to the report, Madrid’s scouting and sporting management have been “working on Konate for months,” preparing to launch negotiations in January 2026 when pre-contract discussions become permissible.
The report also added that Konate has rejected two offers from Liverpool so far, making the club open to selling him this summer to avoid a situation like Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Another Spanish publication AS, has now provided even more updates on the transfer saga, revealing that Konate has decided not to renew his contract at Liverpool.
“Konaté, like Trent months ago, is putting Liverpool off extending his contract,” the report claimed.
“What’s more, according to reports from England and confirmed by AS, he isn’t considering renewing.
And Liverpool is aware of this.”
The report also indicated that Liverpool are now actively working on securing an exit for the defender this summer, in order not to lose the player for nothing.
“Hence, the Reds ‘ technical secretariat has set to work.
Not so much trying to convince the player, but rather finding an attractive proposal that would provide them with a financial injection commensurate with the player’s valuation,” the report added.
“For Liverpool, no less than 50 million.
Amounts that Madrid isn’t considering.
With the defender’s will on their side.”
