Liverpool have reportedly offered Ibrahima Konate a new contract proposal.
The French defender’s future has been subject to much specualtion this summer amid interst from Real Madrid.
The Spanish club have expressed interest in the Liverpool defender, whose contract is set to expire in 2026.
Konate has grown into a key figure at Anfield, and his performances have not gone unnoticed by Europe’s elite.
Real Madrid, known for strategically targeting players nearing the end of their contracts, see the 26-year-old French international as a long-term solution in central defense.
This potential move has sent alarm bell ringing at Liverpool, who are determined not to lose another star on a free transfer—especially after witnessing the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.
As a result, the Reds have reportedly tabled a significantly improved contract extension in hopes of convincing Konate to commit his future to the club.
This is according to journalist Santi Aouna, who cliams that the Reds have offered Konate a new improved deal.
Writing for Foot Mercato, the journalist said:
“Understand that Ibrahima Konate has received a new offer from Liverpool
“New improved proposal has been sent to the french defender
“Despite their proactive stance, Konaté has yet to respond to Liverpool’s new offer, and sources suggest the allure of playing for Real Madrid is appealing to him.
Still, Liverpool remain optimistic that the defender will be swayed by their proposal, which includes a considerable pay rise and a key role in Jürgen Klopp’s long-term plans.”
