Liverpool face some key decisions regarding the future of France international Ibrahima Konate.

The French centre-back has been a regular presence in their defence in recent years, but the Reds now risk losing another key player to Real Madrid.

Los Blancos signed Trent Alexander-Arnold after his Liverpool contract expired in the summer, ultimately paying a modest fee to secure his early release so he could feature in their Club World Cup campaign.

Now, the Merseysiders could be heading for a similar scenario with Konate, who has entered the final year of his deal.

Real Madrid have been strongly linked with a move for the 26-year-old, and reports suggest that a potential transfer to the Spanish giants is already at an advanced stage.

Konate recently joked that his France teammate Kylian Mbappe “calls him every two hours” about a potential move to Real Madrid.

He told Telefoot: “He’s calling me every two hours.

Liverpool remain calm for now, with the club expected to mount a strong push to keep him – just as they did when extending the contracts of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

However, according to Marca, Konate has already rejected a third contract offer from Liverpool.

His current deal runs until the summer of 2026, but the club are said to be increasingly resigned to the possibility of losing him.

Much like the case of Alexander-Arnold’s departure, there is growing belief at Anfield that Konate could be the next high-profile player to make the switch to Madrid on a free transfer.

Konate has racked up 136 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals since joining Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.
