Simon Jordan has ripped into Alexander Isak and his speculated gentleman’s agreement after he dropped a bombshell statement over his Newcastle future.
Amid the PFA Premier League 2024-25 awards (19 August), unsurprisingly, a certain Mr Isak did not turn up due to the continuing discontent of allegedly not being allowed to leave the Magpies.
The Sweden international was nominated for last year’s team of the season alongside Mohamed Salah who stated that Arsenal are favourites for the title.
On the star dotted evening Isak dropped a bombshell statement providing a significant update on his Newcastle situation amid ongoing links with Liverpool.
Former Red Stan Collymore “hated” the stance Isak had taken as ex-Crystal Palace chairman Jordan also had his say on proceedings.

Discussing the explosive state of affairs on talkSPORT (20 August), the former Eagles chair blew the number 14’s claims over a so-called “gentleman’s agreement” out of the water.
The co-presenter went on a passionate rant, stating: “We’ve got a three-year contract left and we’re having this discussion about a gentleman’s agreement and people are actually believing it.

“People listen to: ‘oh, broken promises’, you get idiots like Jamie O’Hara going on Sky [Sports] saying: ‘Broken promises have been made.’ Nonsense!
“Everybody in the real world knows that if an undertaking were given by a football club to a player that they were prepared to engage in a discussion allowing him to be sold, that it would be documented properly in the same way that his [Isak] contract was documented.
“You’re not sitting there with these supreme athletes that are getting paid enormous amounts of money with big contracts…saying things that are not substantial.”

Whilst much of the attention has been on the Swede, the Magpies board and Eddie Howe, little has been said about how the squad must be feeling right now.
Many were surprised by their relatively assured display in the 0-0 draw against Aston Villa in their opening game of the season given the Isak cloud that looms over St James’ Park.
Yet, the team came together with high intensity, quick passing and an outward showing of team spirit.
Despite their lack of a powerful bagsman down the middle, Anthony Gordon demonstrated he has what it takes to play as the number nine, making superb runs via all channels and popping seven shots off in the match.

The former Everton winger even stated after the game that he feels he is reaching a point in his career where his play style may be moving more towards a central attacking role which should be music to the ears of Howe.
However, I’m sure the players would have been trying their best to ignore the noise coming from the Isak and Newcastle feud as they look to remain professional, awaiting to find out the number 14’s fate come the end of August.
Presumably, the actions of their teammate have likely ruffled some feathers in the Toon camp, but the squad will have to keep their heads down and show what they can do on the pitch.
