Sheffield Wednesday made a strong account of themselves in a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday.
The Owls headed into their opening game of the Championship season in a dire position, thanks to owner Dejphon Chansiri’s consistently late wage payments.
Chansiri’s financial failings have witnessed multiple exits, including the notable departures of former star man Josh Windass and ex-manager Danny Rohl.
Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday took a 1-0 lead over Leicester on 10 August, and only fell to defeat after Barry Bannan was sent off.

Amid several player exits, one star who Sheffield Wednesday have successfully retained is young goalkeeper Pierce Charles.
The Northern Ireland international made just eight Championship appearances for the South Yorkshire side last term, thanks to the presence of James Beadle.
However, Beadle returned to parent club Brighton earlier this summer, and subsequently joined Birmingham City on loan, allowing Charles to enjoy the number one spot.

The 20-year-old impressed against Leicester, making 11 saves.
Meanwhile, the Sheffield Star’s Joe Crann posted on X on Sunday: “After today, I’ll be stunned if there’s not a few clubs trying to test SWFC’s resolve when it comes to Pierce Charles before this window ends.
“The kid has such incredible potential.
His ceiling is so high.”
Football Insider verdict
An unfortunate byproduct of Charles’ display against the Foxes on Sunday may be that he has attracted interest in his services.
Thanks to their undesirable financial position, Sheffield Wednesday will be extremely vulnerable if an offer for the 20-year-old is made before the transfer window closes.
Meanwhile, Henrik Pedersen faces a tough task after replacing Danny Rohl in trying circumstances at Hillsborough, amid Chansiri’s failing ownership.

However, by putting up a strong fight against Leicester, who were in the Premier League just last season, the South Yorkshire outfit showed that they are ready to battle for Pedersen.
A relegation likely beckons for the Hillsborough side.
However, if they can produce similar performances against weaker opponents than the East Midlands side this term, they will be able to pick up positive results along the way.
The Owls’ upcoming clash with League One outfit Bolton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, 13 August, can help ease their increasing Championship concerns.
