Liverpool are on the lookout for defensive reinforcements during the rest of the summer transfer window.
The Reds have made three excellent signings so far, but the imminent sale of Jarell Quansah is set to leave them looking a little light at centre-back.
Add the contract uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konate into the mix, and it is clear that Liverpool need to bring in a central defender or two.
Although things could still come to a positive conclusion, the feeling that Konate could leave Liverpool is growing stronger.
The Reds are reportedly closing in on Marc Guehi as a potential new addition, however, with the Crystal Palace captain in an identical position with his contract at Selhurst Park.
And according to former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant, swapping Konate for Guehi would be no bad thing for Arne Slot.

Whether Konate intends to run down his Liverpool contract or not, it feels unlikely that he will leave the Reds during this year’s summer transfer window.
That could impact on whether Guehi arrives, with the 24-year-old reportedly unwilling to join Liverpool as back-up.

Either way, the chances of Guehi ending up at Anfield appear to be increasing, with Pennant claiming he is less worried about losing Konate as a result.
“Konate has got a year left, let’s not put ourselves in a sticky situation,” the pundit told TalkSPORT.
“It does worry me a bit, but if we’re going to go and get Marc Guehi, it doesn’t worry me as much because that’s a good like for like replacement.”

“He’s an England international, he’s proven in the Premier League, won the FA Cup against Man City, so he can hold his own against the top players,” Pennant continued.
“So, if someone said ‘right, you’re going to lose Konate but you’re going to get Marc Guehi’, I’d say ‘alright, yeah, I’ll take that’.
We’re looking at getting players in who we may need in the future.”
As well as giving his opinion on the Konate and Guehi predicament, Pennant also weighed in on the future of Darwin Nunez.
As Rousing The Kop revealed on Saturday, Nunez has told Liverpool he wants to join Napoli, with the two teams attempting to negotiate a fee.
And in Pennant’s view, there is no way back for the Uruguayan at Anfield.
“He’s had three seasons now,” says the 42-year-old.
“I think every single Liverpool fan, including myself, has been very, very patient with him and stuck by him season after season.
I think we’ve seen what we’re going to get from Nunez whether it’s three seasons or six seasons.
