The Reds were not always at their best during the game in Japan, but they came back from behind to record a convincing victory.

Arne Slot was happy with Liverpool’s comeback, with the Reds showing good determination to overhaul the score line.

There were other positives from the day as well, perhaps none more so than a goal for precocious winger Rio Ngumoha.

Ngumoha has been a star of Liverpool’s pre-season.

The 16-year-old has really started to announce himself as a potential first team player for the Reds.

And as the Ngumoha hype train begins to pick up speed, the Liverpool coaching staff have reportedly been left in awe at just how good the youngster is.

If there was excitement over Ngumoha upon his arrival from Chelsea last summer, it has now gone into overdrive following his exploits this year.

And according to journalist David Lynch, the Liverpool coaches share in this wonderment over the teenager.

“All the things I’m hearing from people who are around the place, out on the tour, is that there’s almost been a bit of surprise about how good Ngumoha is amongst the coaching staff, how much he’s kicked on,” Lynch told his YouTube channel on Wednesday.

“I know personally he’s worked hard going into this pre-season to make sure he was ready to grasp his opportunity, and all the word I’m hearing from people out in Tokyo is that he’s absolutely doing that on the training pitch and he’s showing it in the friendlies as well.”

“He’s only 16, 17 very soon but he looks capable of playing a decent chunk of minutes for me this season and that’s the decision Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are going to have here,” Lynch adds.

We think Ngumoha can be an option, Wirtz can, Frimpong can as well on that right-hand side’, that’s the big question for me.

“But I think Ngumoha’s doing himself absolutely no harm in terms of playing significant minutes next season by playing the way he is and by all accounts what he’s doing in training as well.

What a huge talent he is.”

One of the players linked with replacing Luis Diaz in that left sided attacking role has been Lyon’s Malick Fofana.

Fofana is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar as they look at their options following Diaz’s exit.

But, after Ngumoha’s breakout over pre-season, there is little reason for the Reds to be interested in the 20-year-old.

Just a few years Ngumoha’s senior, Fofana could block the pathway outlined to him before his arrival from Chelsea.

Instead, Liverpool should be doing everything they can to ensure Ngumoha gets the chances he needs to keep up his progress.
