Crystal Palace have been backed to keep hold of Marc Guehi amid interest from Liverpool and Newcastle following Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal.
Crystal Palace enjoyed a terrific 2024/25 campaign under Oliver Glasner as they won the FA Cup for the first time in their history, and the England international was a key part of their success from centre-back.
His future has been the subject of intense rumours this summer with his contract up next year, and Football Insider revealed on 12 August that Liverpool and Newcastle will make moves for Guehi late in the window.
He has started the new season as a regular under Glasner despite continued links away, and recently helped the Eagles win the Community Shield, while also playing a part in their first ever win in a major European competition against Frederikstad on Thursday (21 August).
Football Insider revealed on Friday (22 August) that Liverpool remain hopeful of signing Guehi in a cut-price deal, but Palace have recently allowed fellow star Eze to join Arsenal, and so may be less likely to let the centre-back depart between now and 1 September.

Palace boss Glasner recently admitted that Guehi “has to stay” at Palace, and they will “have big troubles” if he departs with Eze’s exit now confirmed.
Former Eagles striker Clinton Morrison backed the Austrian head-coach’s claim while speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (5:25pm, 23 August), admitting that their best option may be to keep him and then let him leave when his contract expires next summer, despite previously thinking he would leave.

He said: “I was sure because I thought he was gonna go and I didn’t think Eze was.
Now you’ve got the money for Eze can you afford to let Guehi go on a free [next year]?
“I’m hearing what Oliver Glasner’s saying, he’s saying he don’t want Marc Guehi to go because they are in big trouble if he goes.
If they went on and won the Europa Conference [League] and he stayed and was a big part of that.
“People say ‘Oh you could have got £60m or £70m for him last year’.
Surely you’d swap £30m or £40m [reduction in his value] for doing what they’ve done in the last four months, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield.”
Football Insider verdict
Guehi’s impressive exploits at Palace have made him one of the most highly-rated, in-demand centre-backs in the Premier League, and a move to Liverpool will undoubtedly appeal after their recent title win.
With that said, the 24-year-old must be given assurances of ample playing time at Anfield if he is to make the move, especially with the potential to be a starter for England next summer at the World Cup in the USA.

Arne Slot’s centre-back options were looking relatively light before Liverpool snapped up Giovanni Leoni from Parma, and with Van Dijk and Konate likely to start every game they are fit, it arguably makes little sense for Guehi to join the Reds soon if he is to be resigned to the bench.
Staying at Selhurst Park and potentially helping them to a Conference League triumph and another strong Premier League showing would definitely benefit him, and then he would be able to assess all of his options next summer and have a better chance of being first-choice at a top club.
