ACADEMY WATCH: Marc Bridge-Wilkinson has sent a message to Liverpool hopefuls as his time as under-18s coach draws to a close

The job of securing the Premier League title may be done, but the season hasn't quite finished yet for Liverpool's first team.

Here's the latest from around the Academy.

Youngsters advice

It will be an emotional Bridge-Wilkinson who exits the Academy for the final time later this month after 10 years with Liverpool during which he has coached a number of age groups, culminating in taking over the U18s in May 2020.

In his first season in the role, he led a Liverpool team including Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton - with Stefan Bajcetic among the substitutes - to the FA Youth Cup final, where they were beaten 2-1 at Aston Villa.

Neco Williams, Jayden Danns, James McConnell and Lewis Koumas are among other players with whom Bridge-Wilkinson has worked to have gone on to feature with the Liverpool first team.

And Bridge-Wilkinson believes each of those possesses the same key attribute he wants to see more of from the next batch of Academy hopefuls.

"The boys who have been successful during my 10 years being here, the ones that have had the opportunities to get into the first team and have stayed there or gone on to be successful elsewhere, they are super competitive in everything they do," he says, speaking to the ECHO.

"Look at Conor Bradley, Jarell Quansah, Tyler Morton, and other players who haven't quite made the grade here but have gone on to do well elsewhere.

And the ones who succeed today, even more so."

Reflecting on his favourite moments while at Liverpool, Bridge-Wilkinson adds: "It sounds strange, but I remember my first day and putting my kit on for the first time and thinking 'this is special'.

"In terms of on the pitch, getting to lead the team in the UEFA Youth League was a highlight.

Bridge-Wilkinson will take a short break once he departs the Academy for good at the end of the month before assessing his next coaching move.

And of working at Liverpool, he says: "It's a wonderful place to work, full of wonderful people.

But when you get to first-team football, it's the final third and defensive third where games are won and lost."

Friendlies arranged

The competitive action may be over for the Academy, but the need to keep players on standby with the first team having not yet concluded their Premier League campaign means a number of friendlies have been arranged.

The U18s are at Norwich City on Saturday, before travelling to Sunderland and then finishing at home against opposition from the United States.
