Liverpool look set to focus on recouping some transfer fees as they prepare to tie up two big deals in the coming days.

The Reds have committed to spending an awful lot of money this summer, with Florian Wirtz ready to arrive for a potential British transfer record.

Wirtz will undergo a medical at Liverpool this week, before sealing an unexpected and enormous move to Anfield.

After the German, Liverpool are expected to sign Milos Kerkez and take their transfer outlay to almost £200m.

The Reds aren’t finished yet, with a new striker and even another centre-half still on the agenda for Arne Slot.

However, in order to spend more, Liverpool are going to first have to make some sales.

Diaz has been heavily linked with an exit this summer after putting up his best season in a Liverpool shirt.

Barcelona saw an approach for Diaz rejected, with the Reds taking the curious position of not wishing to sell the Colombian, but not extending his contract either.

And according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, although Barca are now focusing on Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams instead, Diaz could still leave Liverpool for Al Nassr.

“I would keep it open, if from Saudi a crazy offer arrives then the story could still be open,” Romano told Give Me Sport’s YouTube channel on Wednesday.

“I would not kill that story.”

“For sure it’s difficult for Barca because it’s a different package they could offer to Liverpool and to the player, so at the moment they are going for Nico Williams.

“I think for them the intention is still to try in the next weeks, but we have to respect Liverpool and see how they will reply.

But this story remains open, waiting to understand how much they will offer to the club and the player.”

Although Diaz’s future has been an ever-present topic during this summer so far, it now looks virtually certain that he will be playing his football at Liverpool or in Saudi Arabia next season.

Barcelona were clearly keen on the 28-year-old, however, with Liverpool’s asking price well out of the Catalans’ reach, they have switched focus to Williams.

As well as his Wednesday explanation, Romano offered a new update on Barcelona and the Spanish winger on Thursday morning.

Diaz’s Barca dream appears to be over, but as Liverpool wait to see how much Al Nassr are willing to offer, he could yet leave Anfield.
