Newcastle United have learned where Alexander Isak’s future lies amid Liverpool’s strong advances for his services.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, Newcastle don’t want to sell Isak, who scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season.

The Sweden international’s efforts fired the Magpies to Champions League qualification as well as Carabao Cup glory.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are keen on Isak despite signing fellow striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this summer.

After excelling for Newcastle last term, Isak had his heart set on a move to Liverpool as the Reds battle to retain their Premier League title.

Arne Slot’s side have enjoyed a largely successful transfer window, having signed the likes of former Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz.

However, Sky Sports News’ Keith Downie revealed on Monday, 11 August: “It’s becoming increasingly likely that Alexander Isak will remain at Newcastle.”

Liverpool’s Premier League triumph last term marked just their second top-flight title in 35 years, so the Merseyside giants will be keen to hand the Anfield faithful more joy next season.

However, Slot’s men are significantly more likely to claim top spot once again if they can sign Isak from Newcastle.

Ekitike proved he is a good striker throughout his time with Frankfurt, and scored an impressive goal for the Reds on debut in the Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday, 10 August.

However, the France Under-21 international lacks the Premier League experience that Isak has.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s title rivals have all strengthened their attacks this summer, with Arsenal’s notable addition of Viktor Gyokeres.

Chelsea can build on their Club World Cup success thanks to the acquisitions of strikers Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, while Manchester City have signed attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki.

Elsewhere, former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett exclusively told Liverpool News 247 that Crystal Palace should have had more than one penalty at Wembley on Sunday.
