Bournemouth fans have erupted at a new development around David Brooks’ future after he was close to leaving the club in the summer window.

David Brooks has been a key man for Bournemouth ever since he joined the club from Sheffield United in 2018 for around £11million [The Guardian].

He has battled back from serious health issues over the last few years to become a regular Premier League starter under Andoni Iraola this season, but he could have departed the club in the summer window amid genuine interest in his services.

Crystal Palace were linked with a move for Brooks last month as they aimed to bring in multiple replacements for the outgoing Eberechi Eze, but Bournemouth rejected their £8m bid for Brooks with Iraola against letting him go following numerous high-profile summer exits.

He has continued to play his part for the Cherries, with a solid performance as they beat Tottenham 1-0 last time out, and now a surprising new bombshell has dropped around his future at the Vitality Stadium.

Brooks has stayed with Bournemouth for this term, and the club have now taken the step to hand him a new deal as a reward for his loyalty.

The club posted to their official X account on Thursday (11 September) saying: “David Brooks.

Here to stay with [AFCB],” with a love heart emoji and a graphic of him next to “2029” to signify a three-year extension to his current deal which was set to expire next summer.

Many Bournemouth fans were overjoyed at the news of his new deal, with one saying: “So pleased for him.

And great to see him back to the levels he was at pre-illness.”

Another showed their happiness but also called on the club to act to extend more contracts, saying: “Amazing!

Lets go Brooksey!”

One fan took to X to simply say: “David Brooks I love you,” while another replied to the news by predicting more Cherries success and saying: “Winning the lot.”

Brooks has now signed a new deal at the Vitality Stadium with his future safe for a few years at least, but Bournemouth now need to act to get more players tied down after a summer exodus hurt their hopes of more success this term.

Bournemouth were forced to sell a number of their key players in the summer, with Dean Huijsen joining Real Madrid and the likes of Milos Kerkez, Ilia Zabarnyi and Dango Ouattara all left for pastures new.

They will need to avoid a similar situation next term, especially if they enjoy another decent season this time around, with Marcos Senesi’s deal set to expire in 2026 and Ryan Christie’s ending a year later.

Both of those players are regular starters for the club right now, but the main thing that the Cherries’ chiefs need to take care of is Iraola’s contract, as his current one only runs until the end of 2025-26.

The Sun recently claimed that he was on Nottingham Forest’s list of potential hires before they appointed Ange Postecoglou, and he was also touted with the Spurs job after his May sacking, so Bournemouth need to act fast before Iraola is snapped up and they are left to struggle.
