The transfer market can be a time of chaos and panic buys, with clubs trying to scramble around last minute to try and get a player through the door.

However, for Liverpool, they tend to be a little calmer due to the fact that they like to get their business done very early, just like they have done this summer.

Florian Wirtz is a deal that, as seen, takes a lot of time to complete, showing how smart the Reds were to show their interest so early.

But, Liverpool have been tracking Wirtz for five years, showing how pre-planning and building early relationships can be key later down the line.

Granted, the £127m transfer fee is extortionate, but all his underlying numbers, in combination with the eye test, point in a positive direction.

Statistics are not for everyone and that is understandable, but very rarely does a player that looks good on the eye have bad underlying numbers as the two very much go hand-in-hand.

Wirtz is no different in this case and his numbers match just how good he really is, with data journalist David Segar from Opta highlighting what he will bring to Liverpool.

“Florian Wirtz’s output is obviously incredible, his underlying numbers are incredible, and we know this about Liverpool; the fact they are going in for him suggests his numbers are good,” Segar said on the Redmen TV 2 YouTube channel.

“He’s got pretty much everything.

He’s creative, scores goals, sets up goals, sets up chances, he works hard off the ball, his passing is good but not too timid and he’s optimistic with his passing.”

This is something that should excite Liverpool fans as they are clearly getting a player who wants to be positive and wants to attack, while not having an ego and wanting to help his teammates out the best he can.

Wirtz is a mix of Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, with the German capable of scoring and creating goals.

At 22-years-old, he is just shy of 200 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, providing 122 goal contributions during that time.

As well as excelling statistically, his personality is another key factor in Liverpool being so keen to get this deal done, with his tenacity and desire to win aligning perfectly with the ethos of the club.

The pressure on his shoulders will be huge but the indications are that he’ll be able to handle it, although most £100m players have flopped in the Premier League despite showing similar signs, so let’s hope that isn’t the case here.
