Liverpool may have a star-studded team now but they have had some simply exceptional players throughout their history.
Arne Slot has a plethora of world class talent at his disposal ahead of the new season, with £116m Florian Wirtz being the pick of the bunch.
A striker is still a position the Dutchman desperately needs to be able to maximise the 22-year-old’s creative output, however, and a prime Robbie Fowler would be exactly who he would want.
With the nickname ‘God’, it does not take a genius to understand just how good he was for Liverpool and his legacy will live on for quite some time, something fans will hope the same for by the time their new striker eventually departs.
However, although Fowler was part of one of the best Liverpool teams and played with some elite level players, including Steven Gerrard, there is one in particular who he thinks is the best, even if he did go on to depart Anfield prematurely.

Although injuries scuppered his career a little, at his peak, Fowler was one of the best finishers in the division, but his job was made easier by the players he had around him.
One of these was winger Steve McManaman and when asked at the Hisense and FIFA Club World Cup media event who was the most underrated player he played with, he took it a step further and labelled McManaman as the best he had shared a pitch with.
“He’s not underrated but people ask me all the time about who was the best player I played with.
I always mention Steven Gerrard, because of what he is and what he’s done,” Fowler said as per GiveMeSport.

‘But the best player I played with was Steve McManaman.
But look, he was an incredible player.
“And for any player to go and do what he did at Real Madrid and be one of the Galacticos and not look out of place will do for me.
He was incredible.”
McManaman left Liverpool in 1999 aged 27 and made a real name for himself in the Spanish capital, with the scouser a bit of a legend in that part of the world and making Fowler’s admission very understandable.
Despite achieving all he did and even going on to succeed at Real Madrid, McManaman is still underrated at Liverpool and should, arguably, be held in higher regard.
He was at the Reds for nine years between 1990 and 1999 and was known for his pace, trickery and versatility.
He operated mainly on the right but could also play on the left and through the middle, with the scouser having the end product to match his influence on most games.

Like Fowler, McManaman did not pick up many England caps due to bad relationships with certain managers, however this should not overshadow just how good a footballer he really was.
