Liverpool Under-18s, who are yet to appoint a new head coach following the departure of long-serving boss Marc Bridge-Wilkinson at the end of last season, opened their pre-season campaign by thrashing Connah’s Quay Nomads on Saturday.

The young Reds, who were led by assistant manager Anthony Ryan, ran out 6-1 winners at the Academy in Kirkby.

Both sides paid tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, ahead of kick-off as they observed a minute’s silence, while the players also wore black armbands in memory of the pair during the game.

Liverpool took an early lead through Joe Bradshaw, as the 17-year-old continued his impressive scoring form from last season with a close-range finish.

However, the young Reds were quickly pegged back as Max Woodcock equalised for the Welsh outfit.

The two teams went in level at the break, but Liverpool quickly took control of proceedings following the restart.

Lenix Conde restored the Reds’ lead earlier in the second half before Lucas Clarke, who joined the club from Manchester City last December, scored their third as he headed home from a corner.

England Under-18s international Josh Sonni-Lambie then made it 4-1 as he turned and finished well inside the box, before Under-16s starlet Josh Abe found the back of the net from a tight angle.

Hayden Murray-Holme then concluded the scoring for Liverpool as they ran out emphatic winners in their first friendly of the summer.

Bradshaw scored 11 goals from 22 U18 Premier League matches last season, also registering four assists.

Meanwhile, Sonni-Lambie finishing the campaign with nine goals and three assists from 23 league outings.

While Liverpool Under-18s are yet to appoint a new head coach following Bridge-Wilkinson's exit, the Reds did appoint former Wales boss Rob Page as their new Under-21s manager last month following the exit of Barry Lewtas.
