Tottenham fans are going crazy on social media after their club announced the arrival of Dutch playmaker Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig.

Tottenham‘s woes in the transfer window have been on show for all to see, with a number of players turning down the chance to join new boss Thomas Frank as they enter a new era without club legend Son Heung-min.

Morgan Gibbs-White chose not to join Tottenham last month, as he instead signed a new contract at Nottingham Forest despite the North London outfit moving to activate his release clause.

Tottenham also looked set to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace as they agreed personal terms, but their move was hijacked by their arch-rivals and Eze officially signed for Arsenal on Saturday (23 August).

They have been desperately trying to fill the void left by James Maddison after he recently suffered a cruciate ligament rupture, and now look to have finally captured their new star man under the noses of another London rival.

Tottenham officially confirmed Simons’ arrival with a post to their official X account on Friday (29 August) saying: “He’s ours.

We’re delighted to announce the signing of Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig on a long-term contract,” alongside pictures of the Netherlands international holding up their home shirt and signing a contract.

Simons had been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, but Spurs hijacked their move for the 22-year-old and have been able to get a deal over the line prior to the end of the window.

The Athletic report that the North London outfit have paid an initial £51.8million for Simons, which seems like a coup considering his credentials and quality seen on the international stage and over the last few years at Leipzig.

Tottenham have suffered throughout this window after multiple setbacks with missed transfers, injuries and players leaving, but this is clearly a high point for the club, with supporters overjoyed in their reaction to Spurs’ post on social media, as one said: “Insane signing, what a statement,” while another replied: “You are going to be our star boy for years to come.
