Kevin De Bruyne was linked with a sensational move to Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Belgian midfielder is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season after not being offered a new deal.

And a report from Sky Sport Italia claimed that the Reds have already tabled an offer to De Bruyne which would see him arrive at Anfield on a free transfer.

However, the ECHO understands that this is not the case and Liverpool have not made an offer to the 33-year-old.

As reported by the ECHO on Thursday morning, the Reds' recruitment team are presently training their sights elsewhere to improve a squad that has romped to a 20th championship this season.

But back in November 2022, Van Dijk named De Bruyne as the one player he wished he played alongside at club level.

The Reds captain explained what impact he believes the City star would have made at Anfield had a move to Liverpool materialised.

“Kevin De Bruyne,” Van Dijk told Gary Neville on The Overlap in November 2022 when asked for the player he wished he played alongside.

“I think he’s unbelievable.

If he would have played at Liverpool, we’d have gone even further than we already are.

“I think he’s outstanding.

I think he’s an outstanding player.”

Van Dijk and De Bruyne may not have been teammates on the pitch, but they have a good friendship away from the game.

The pair have previously been spotted enjoying holidays in Ibiza, as well as watching world-renowned DJ Calvin Harris.

It was last summer that Harris posted a photo on Instagram of himself alongside Van Dijk and De Bruyne following one of the DJ's gigs in Ibiza.

Harris was also on the open-top bus parade in May 2022 after Liverpool won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup during the 2021/22 season.
