Jacob Ramsey is increasingly likely to remain at Aston Villa beyond the end of the transfer window, according to their former senior scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Blackburn and remains very well-connected within the game, exclusively told Football Insider that Villa are pricing clubs out of a move to sign the 24-year-old.

While a number of clubs are keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s situation, none are prepared to make a move as things stand and will pursue other targets.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 18 July that Villa are demanding £50million to sell Ramsey amid interest from Nottingham Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had been keen on a move for the midfielder, but could now drop out of the race after Morgan Gibbs-White committed to a new contract.

Everton are also among the interested clubs, but are prioritising other targets as they are unlikely to be able to reach Villa’s asking price as things stand.

This article contains exclusive comment from Mick Brown, a football transfer expert and former chief scout for Man United and Sunderland among others.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Villa could accept offers for Ramsey this summer in an attempt to raise funds and balance the books amid financial pressure.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the midfielder is now more likely to remain at Villa Park in the window’s final month.

“It’s looking more and more likely that Ramsey could stay at Villa,” he told Football Insider.

“There are a fair few clubs who have been looking at him and would take him at the right price, but Villa want a lot of money for him.

“Villa have made a decision about how much he’s worth and clubs aren’t willing to pay that.

“Nottingham Forest were looking at him, but Gibbs-White is staying now so that puts that one in doubt, and Everton won’t pay what Villa want.

“The issue for Villa is whether they’re going to have to sell players because of their financial position.

“There’s been a lot of talk about it, but it’s not clear where they stand at the moment.

“If they need to sell, Ramsey is one they’ve always been open to cashing in on, and they might be forced to reduce the asking price for him.

“At the moment, though, I think he’s more likely to stay at Villa than go anywhere else.”

Ramsey is not the only player being linked with a move away from Villa Park in the closing stages of the window, as Chelsea remain keen to sign Morgan Rogers.

Football Insider revealed on 3 August that Villa are doing everything to keep Rogers at the club as Unai Emery values him as a crucial part of his plans.

Chelsea have identified the attacking midfielder as a key target in the final month of the window and the Blues are now planning to test Villa’s resolve.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Villa will demand upwards of £80million to sell Rogers, who remains the “dream signing” at Stamford Bridge.
