Aston Villa are prepared to walk away from their pursuit of Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson, according to their former senior scout.

Mick Brown, who also worked as the chief scout at Man United and Sunderland and remains very well-connected at his former clubs, exclusively told Football Insider that Villa have been unable to reach an agreeable price for the 24-year-old.

Football Insider revealed on 22 August that Villa would not meet Jackson’s £60million price tag and would need the fee to be cut before agreeing a deal.

Instead, the Senegal international is now considered more likely to move elsewhere with Unai Emery forced to set his sights on alternative targets to bolster up front.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 25 August that Bayern Munich have opened talks to sign Jackson and are confident of agreeing terms.

The German giants are pushing hard to land the striker, who has been told he can leave Stamford Bridge in the final days of the window.

Football Insider revealed last month that Villa had opened preliminary talks to sign Jackson and were prepared to accelerate their move for the Chelsea forward.

However, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that barring a late change of heart, a deal for Jackson is now likely off.

“I hear Villa are going to walk away from Jackson,” he told Football Insider.

“He will end up leaving Chelsea this summer, but it’s just a question of where he goes because as far as I’ve heard, he won’t be going to Villa.

“Chelsea are wanting £60-70million for him, they’re not going to pay that.

“Even if they wanted to, I’m not sure their financial situation would allow it without more sales.

“There was definitely interest there, but they now believe there are better value-for-money options if they want to bring in a new striker.

“But like I say, there are other clubs interested and one of them may now make a move.”

After missing out on another transfer target, Villa’s attentions may be brought back to their own squad, as Morgan Rogers is once again attracting interest.

Football Insider revealed on 26 August that Villa are preparing to lose Rogers in exchange for a lte signing spree which could allow them to bolster their squad.

While they remain extremely reluctant to let their star man leave, interest from Tottenham has sparked the idea that cashing in may not be an unacceptable option.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed that Tottenham are considering alternatives to Rogers in case they are unable to get a difficult deal over the line.
