Man United are considering a move to sign “tremendous” Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 22-year-old is seen as the “ideal” option for Ruben Amorim‘s midfield.

Following Anderson’s man-of-the-match display for England against Andorra on 6 September, United believe he ticks all the boxes to play a key role in their squad.

Nottingham Forest are fearful of losing Anderson amid growing interest following Anthony Elanga’s move to Newcastle in July while clubs track their other key stars.

United are also set to be boosted in their pursuit of the midfielder as Newcastle did not include a buy-back option when he was sold to Forest in 2024 [Chronicle Live].

Man United have been targeting a number of midfielders with the likes of Morten Hjulmand and Adam Wharton targeted as they aim to address a key area of the squad.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, insisted that Anderson could be the answer to their midfield issues should he arrive from Forest.

“Man United have been looking at Anderson,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s done a tremendous job at Nottingham Forest and then he’s come into the England side and turned in a man-of-the-match performance.

“United see him as exactly the type of midfielder they would like to bring in.

“He gets up and down the park, he’s confident and secure in possession of the ball, and he’s not afraid to put in a tackle which is something they need.

“Anderson would solve, or certainly help with, a lot of the issues they’ve had under Amorim.

“Everybody knows they wanted a midfielder in the summer but they couldn’t find the right one who was available at the price they wanted.

“I don’t know what Anderson would cost, but he is somebody who’s been on their radar.

“He would be the ideal player to fill the gaps they’ve had in the squad.”

The former scout sees the Nottingham Forest star as the ideal player for Man United, and has given his seal of approval to bring him to Old Trafford.

Anderson has emerged on United’s radar as they continue to assess options to improve their midfield, after targeting Brighton star Carlos Baleba in the summer.

Football Insider revealed on 8 September that Man United will not sign Baleba in January after Brighton made clear he is not for sale under any circumstances.

The 21-year-old is believed to be among Amorim’s top targets to strengthen his midfield, but the Seagulls’ resolve may force them to look elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in April that Brighton want £100million to sell Baleba – an asking price which put off Liverpool’s pursuit earlier in the year.

Anderson is not expected to be cheap by any means, with Forest determined to keep their best players, but United may feel he would be better value for money.
