Man United have no intentions of letting Luke Shaw leave in the closing stages of the transfer window, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during their most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 30-year-old is set to play a key role under Ruben Amorim this season.

After starting in United’s opening-day defeat against Arsenal, the boss has shown a clear display of faith in the experienced left-back despite speculation about his future.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider last month that Man United could accept “huge” offers for Shaw amid interest from Saudi Pro League sides.

However, Amorim has openly praised the England international following his return to fitness and values him as a key member of his squad and dressing room.

Shaw’s ability to play both as a wing-back and left-sided centre-back means he can provide top- class cover to the likes of Patrick Dorgu and Lisandro Martinez if needed.

Brown told Football Insider in December that United must make a decision about Shaw’s future amid ongoing concerns about his lingering injury issues.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted any late offers for the left-back will be swiftly turned down.

“Luke Shaw is going to be staying at Man United,” he told Football Insider.

“There are players in the squad like him and Harry Maguire who might not be flashy names, but the manager knows he can rely on them when called upon.

“Some others in the squad, you can’t be so certain, but Shaw is ultra-consistent.

“He’s still a very talented player and he can play in a few positions at the back.

“It’s always useful to have a player like that because he’s good enough to start but can also fill in for other key players if needed.

“There was some talk about interest in him from Saudi Arabia.

“I think they’re clear now that he won’t be going anywhere, he’s going to be part of the manager’s plans and he’s a valuable player to have at the club.

“The fact he started against Arsenal is a clear sign of United’s intentions.“

While Amorim has made the decision to keep Shaw at Old Trafford, the same is not the case for Rasmus Hojlund, who is expected to leave the club.

Brown told Football Insider on 18 August that Hojlund is edging closer to leaving Man United and is no longer part of the manager’s plans for the future.

The striker was left out of the squad for United’s 1-0 opening-day defeat to Arsenal in a clear indication that his time at United is coming to an end.

Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider in May that Man United want to sell Hojlund permanently in an attempt to raise funds for reinvestment in the squad.
