Antony is set to leave Man United on transfer deadline day after Man United and Real Betis finally agreed a deal, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the clubs have been locked in “non-stop” talks for weeks.

Now, reports [The Athletic] have claimed a £21.6million deal has been agreed between the two clubs for the 25-year-old to make his return to Spanish football.

Brown told Football Insider in July that Man United were attempting to sell Antony and had instructed his agent to find a permanent move this summer.

Rival interest from Bayer Leverkusen emerged earlier in the window, but failed to materialise, leaving the door open for Betis to eventually reach an agreement.

The Brazil international enjoyed a successful loan spell at Real Betis in the second half of last season and has since been keen to make the permanent switch.

Brown told Football Insider on 25 May that Antony is likely to leave Man United alongside a number of teammates including Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

Now, the former chief scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, explained that the winger is poised to join join his former teammates in leaving United.

“Antony will not be at Man United after the deadline,” he told Football Insider.

“There was never any way he was coming back to Man United as part of the manager’s plans, so they’ve been trying to move him on.

“There have been non-stop talks for him to move back to Spain with Real Betis.

“He did very well on loan there last year, and they’ve been keen to bring him back.

“There was a bit of rival interest from Bayer Leverkusen which the club hoped might help boost his transfer fee, but nothing happened with that.

“So it looks like Betis will be his destination, and I’m sure he’ll be equally keen to make that move.

“He’s clearly more comfortable and happy there than he ever has been at Old Trafford.”

Antony is not the only player who could be on his way out of Old Trafford before the deadline, with Andre Onana still subject to plenty of speculation.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 29 August that West Ham have been offered Onana on loan as United are aiming to shift him in the coming hours.

The Hammers have been told they can sign the 29-year-old if Amorim‘s side are able to land a new keeper signing before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Brown told Football Insider on 21 August that Man United plan to sell Onana before 1 September as they look to upgrade in the goalkeeping position.
