Man United are working behind the scenes to assess whether a deal for Gianluigi Donnarumma is possible this summer, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who worked at Old Trafford for over a decade during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that a number of clubs are keeping an eye on the 26-year-old’s situation.
The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper has failed to agree terms over a new contract while Luis Enrique’s side have made efforts to sign his replacement, Lucas Chevalier.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 4 August that Ruben Amorim plans to sign a new goalkeeper before the transfer deadline later this month.
However, there are doubts about whether he would want to make an immediate move away from the reigning Champions League winners.
Football Insider revealed in June that PSG are doing everything to agree contract terms with Donnarumma, who remains happy in Paris.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Man City were eying a deal for Donnarumma as a potential long-term replacement for Ederson amid speculation about his future.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also worked for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham insisted that United are now keeping a close eye on the goalkeeper’s situation at PSG.
“Donnarumma is obviously a very, very good goalkeeper,” he told Football Insider.
“I don’t think anybody expected him to become available this summer, and I’m still not sure he’s going to be looking to leave the European Champions.
“On the back of winning the Champions League, you don’t see players pushing for a move.
“As far as I’m aware, there’s no dissatisfaction with the club from the player’s side, I don’t think it’s a case of him not being happy there and wanting to leave.
“His contract situation is interesting and there will be a few clubs including United watching closely.
“With one year left on his contract, PSG might decide to cash in now rather than losing him for free.
“They’ll be doing their background work on the deal, finding out whether he would be open to it, what it would cost, what his wages might be and all of that sort of thing.
“Then they can make the decision about whether it’s possible to do before the window closes.
“It would seem that he might be available, so if it’s a deal that works for United, he would be a very good option to come in and strengthen in goal.”

Alongside their pursuit of a new goalkeeper, there is a growing expectation that a number of players will leave Old Trafford before the window closes.
Brown told Football Insider on 5 August that Chelsea are pushing to sign Alejandro Garnacho and are confident of reaching an agreement.
The winger has been widely expected to leave Old Trafford after a public falling-out with Amorim and is now finally closing in on an exit.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider in May that Chelsea are planning a move for Garnacho after missing out on his signature during the January transfer window.
