Liverpool are on the hunt to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Jeremie Frimpong an option for the Reds.

The Bayer Leverkusen defender is regarded as one of the best fullbacks in Europe, with Frimpong a key part to Xabi Alonso’s side winning a domestic double last season completely undefeated in Germany as well as reaching the UEFA Europa League final.

As a result of the Netherlands international’s form, Frimpong has emerged as a target for Liverpool, with the defender a potential replacement for Real Madrid-bound Alexander-Arnold in the upcoming transfer window.

And Liverpool now know how much they will need to pay if they’re to tempt Frimpong to move to Anfield in the summer.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Frimpong has a €35m (£30m) release clause that becomes active this summer, with Liverpool’s interest in the former Celtic defender ‘genuine’ going into the transfer market.

Jacobs wrote on Twitter about Frimpong’s release clause: “Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has a €35m release clause.

Several European suitors, including Liverpool whose interest is genuine”

With Frimpong revealing that he once rejected the chance to join Liverpool, the Reds could now have a real shot at bringing the electric fullback to Anfield this summer to succeed Alexander-Arnold at the back for next season.

And with Frimpong only available for £30m, Liverpool need to move fast if they’re to secure the defender’s signature, with the Netherlands international a right-back who could offer Arne Slot a new dynamic from the position when compared to Alexander-Arnold.

Frimpong is a different right-back entirely when compared to Alexander-Arnold, with the 24-year-old regarded for his speed and attacking intent rather than his passing and playmaking mind when compared to the England international.

And whilst these qualities have made Alexander-Arnold the best in the world in his position, Frimpong’s skills could help elevate Liverpool’s attack to a brand-new level, with the Leverkusen man one of the main reasons Alonso’s side score as many goals as they have in the last two seasons.

Indeed, Frimpong would bring a whole new dynamic to Liverpool’s attack if signing as Alexander-Arnold’s replacement, and the likes of Mohamed Salah could benefit hugely from the Dutch international’s style of play at Anfield.
