Liverpool target Alexander Isak has broken his silence on his transfer saga.
Isak continues to push for a move to the Premier League champions, whose initial offer of £110 million was rejected by Newcastle earlier this summer.
The Sweden international has effectively downed tools for Eddie Howe’s side since being a notable absentee from their pre-season tour of Asia last month.
As part of the on-going stand-off, Isak refused to attend Tuesday’s PFA awards, where he was named in the Premier League’s Team of the Season.
But the 25-year-old went public about his situation on social media and urged the Magpies to allow him to leave the club due to an irreparable relationship.
“I’m proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25,” said Isak.
“First and foremost I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who have supported me along the way.
“I’m not at the ceremony tonight.
With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there.
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken.
That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time.
To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.
“That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interest of everyone, not just myself.”
Isak was named in the Team of the Season alongside Reds players Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah.
Salah became the first footballer to win the PFA Player of the Year for a third time after helping Liverpool to a record-equalling 20th Premier League title.
