Newcastle United are increasingly likely to retain Alexander Isak beyond the end of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about Isak’s ongoing standoff with Newcastle’s hierarchy.
With little over 24 hours of the summer transfer window remaining, Isak remains a Newcastle player after weeks of attempting to force his way out and complete a record-breaking nine-figure move to Liverpool.
Newcastle have been tipped to sell Isak in a cut-price deal after rejecting Liverpool’s initial £110million bid for the striker, but Eddie Howe‘s side have maintained that Isak won’t be sold for less than £150m.
Nick Woltemade has been signed from Stuttgart in a club-record deal to finally end Newcastle’s search for a striker, but sources have told Football Insider that Howe is struggling to bolster their ranks further.
Football Insider sources have stated that until another replacement is found in the form of Yoane Wissa, Jorgen Strand Larsen or another striker, there are no guarantees that Newcastle will accept any new bids from Liverpool in the final hours of the window.

Football Insider revealed on Sunday that Newcastle could step up their pursuit of Wissa after he posted on social media with his intentions to leave Brentford, and this could open the door for Isak’s own exit.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that despite Newcastle’s owners trying to talk Isak into a U-turn, he remains intent on leaving the Magpies and could be set for an unhappy future.
“There’s been no change”, he told Football Insider.
“The PIF hierarchy did try and convince Alexander Isak to change his mind and come back into the fold at Newcastle, but those pleas have fallen on deaf ears.
“It’s still a stalemate – the player himself is refusing to play.
He has his heart set on this move to Liverpool, and has set his stall out for a while now.
“Even if [Liverpool] do come back with a second bid, there’s no guarantee Newcastle will sell because they need to bring in replacements and were struggling on that front as well.
“Time’s running out, it seems more and more unlikely that this deal will happen, and Alexander Isak will find himself at Newcastle – against his will – come Deadline Day this week.”

Football Insider revealed on 28 August that Liverpool are increasingly confident that they will sign Isak before the deadline, but Arne Slot‘s side are fast approaching the last-chance saloon if they’re to do so.
Liverpool have already strengthened their own ranks up front this summer and £69million striker Hugo Ekitike has found the net in each of his three competitive matches, but the Reds remain keen on Isak.
Florian Wirtz hasn’t hit the ground running to the same extent after his record £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen, and it remains to be seen if Liverpool will complete another club-record signing in the form of Isak before the transfer cut-off.
