'Isn't a foregone conclusion': Journalist shares the 'only reason' Liverpool might not appoint Arne Slot now

Big news dropped on Tuesday afternoon as Liverpool got themselves a new front-runner to replace Jurgen Klopp.

The day had started with the news that former leading candidate Ruben Amorim had been removed from the running.

Having reportedly met with West Ham about taking over at the London Stadium yesterday, Amorim was said to be ‘unlikely’ to move to Anfield.

That came as a bit of shock to those who had seen the 39-year-old as the man most likely to fill the soon-to-be vacant position at Liverpool.

However, that shock was perhaps nothing compared to that experienced when seeing that Feyenoord manager Arne Slot had now become the leading candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp.

However, according to journalist Melissa Reddy, this should not be considered a done deal.

With the coordinated release of news that Slot is a candidate that Liverpool do indeed think ticks every box, it feels like the Reds may be close to getting their man.

And, speaking to Sky Sports, Reddy claims that the language from inside the club is in fact ‘different’ to that used when describing Amorim’s situation.

“The language with Slot is a little bit different,” says the journalist.

“They [Liverpool] have accepted that he is a very, very strong option to replace Jurgen Klopp.

He does meet all the club’s criteria.”

Nevertheless, Reddy admitted that Slot taking over at Anfield is not yet a ‘foregone conclusion.’

“The only reason it isn’t a foregone conclusion is because Feyenoord desperately want to keep him and there are other European clubs looking at him.

“Liverpool know they’re not the only ones talking to him but the club maintain he is a very strong candidate.”

That Liverpool think Slot is not yet a done deal must mean that they have other candidates that they are still keepin on the back-burner.

However, nobody has yet come forward to explain who these might be.

As well as Amorim, Gary O’Neil was today named as someone who is not under consideration by FSG.

In the meantime, Roberto De Zerbi has already long since been ruled out, too.

So, if it isn’t to be Slot, we await to see the surprise name brought forward.

For the time being though, it seems that Liverpool will go all in on getting the Feyenoord boss to Anfield.
