Emiliano Buendia could be reunited with Daniel Farke at Leeds United as Aston Villa given the green light for him to leave on a permanent deal, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about the prospect of Buendia heading to Elland Road.

Football Insider revealed on 29 August that Aston Villa are willing to let Buendia leave before the transfer window closes, as they look to balance their books and prevent the sales of players like Morgan Rogers.

The 28-year-old was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen in January and is a target for Stuttgart in the final days of the window, but sources have told Football Insider that Leeds could now launch a late bid for the Argentine.

Farke has long since considered a reunion with Buendia, and with Leeds “in the market” for a number 10, Football Insider sources have said that the United hierarchy would be able to complete a last-ditch deal.

Leeds’ lack of final-third creativity was on full display in their 0-0 draw against Newcastle, and Football Insider revealed on on 24 August that a number 10 is one of four positions Farke still wanted to address.

Speaking on the new Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke stated that Buendia could be the answer to Leeds’ attacking midfield question, and Farke‘s long-standing interest could put them at the front of the queue.

“Obviously, there’s a long-standing association between Daniel Farke and Buendia from their time at Norwich”, he told Football Insider.

“Leeds are in the market for a number 10, and Buendia is one they are talking to ahead of Monday’s deadline.

“Leeds have been busy in the window; they’ve made a lot of signings.

“He’s a player that the Leeds hierarchy know all about – they’ve been linked with him in previous transfer windows – so it’s a deal the club could look into if they are looking to bring in that number ten.”

Buendia’s brilliant free-kick in Aston Villa’s 4-0 win over Roma in pre-season suggested the Argentine could become a fixure in Unai Emery‘s plans again, but the Villans boss won’t stand in the way of his exit.

With Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Emiliano Martinez all touted for the exit door throughout this summer, Emery and Villa will be happy to sell Buendia and free up PSR wriggle room to keep hold of their key men.

At Elland Road, Farke has publicly stated that he wants two more attacking additions before the window slams shut, and with Buendia ready to head for pastures new, the time is now for Leeds to finally pounce.
