Tottenham’s new captain Cristian Romero delivered an emotional message after his side suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the UEFA Super Cup final.
Spurs had looked in complete control on Wednesday (13 August), leading for 84 minutes and holding a two-goal advantage.
Goals from Micky van de Ven and Romero himself had put Thomas Frank’s side in dreamland against the Champions League winners.
However, the team buckled under late pressure, conceding twice in the final 10 minutes to send the game to penalties.
Van de Ven, who had earlier been the hero, missed from the spot along with Mathys Tel, also missing his penalty, allowing PSG to seal victory on the night.
Romero was outstanding for Tottenham at the back, but after the final whistle, the Argentine centre-back sent a heartfelt message to the supporters, expressing his gratitude and determination to bounce back from the loss.
Romero took to Instagram after Tottenham’s Super Cup defeat, expressing both his devastation at the result and his determination for the season ahead.
He wrote: “It hurts to lose like this, no doubt, but it will make us stronger as a team.
See you at home on Saturday family.”

Romero was confirmed as Tottenham’s new captain ahead of the fixture, ending any lingering speculation about a potential departure.
Last season proved frustrating for the World Cup winner, who missed 27 matches due to injury during Spurs’ injury crisis under Ange Postecoglou.
Despite that, Romero shone in the Europa League final, underlining his importance to the side and the faith placed in him by Frank ahead of the new season.

Tottenham’s lack of attacking depth was evident against PSG, and the club are keen to strengthen their forward line before the window closes.
Football Insider revealed that Savinho is eager to join Spurs, with talks ongoing between the North London club and Manchester City.
With Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined, Frank is targeting a versatile attacker, and it appears Savinho has emerged as a leading candidate.
