Bayer Leverkusen chief executive Fernando Carro has admitted that Xabi Alonso could end up managing Real Madrid amid links with Liverpool.

Alonso was heavily linked with becoming the next Liverpool manager when Jurgen Klopp leaves at the end of the season. The former Reds midfielder recently guided Leverkusen to their first-ever Bundesliga title, beating Bayern Munich in the process.

That success led to Alonso being linked with being Klopp's successor at Anfield as well as replacing Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich. However, Alonso confirmed last month that he would be remaining in charge at Leverkusen beyond this season and would not be moving to Liverpool.

Carro has spoken about Alonso's future, where he has also been linked with managing Real Madrid at some point in the future. The Leverkusen CEO has admitted that he believes Alonso will take charge at the Santiago Bernabeu at some point in his career.

"It is possible that at some point in his career as a coach, he [Alonso] ends up managing Real Madrid, yes," Carro told Spanish news outlet AS.

Carro went on to acknowledge that several clubs were "interested" in appointing Alonso as manager. The Leverkusen chief also admitted that it's still possible that Alonso could manage one of his former teams in the future, which include Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

"There are many interested clubs, it is true, which does not mean that in the future he [Alonso] cannot coach some of those that have been named, especially his former teams as a player," said Carro. "But he feels at ease here; if not, he wouldn't continue.

"We will maintain our ambition next year and play in the Champions League. Obviously, we are very happy with it. It's a good situation for all parties and I think we both win.

"This is a project that we started with him and it is very important that it continues. But Xabi also knows what he has at Leverkusen as a club, not only do we know what we have with him as a coach. It is good for both of us to continue working together."
