Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has urged Liverpool to cash in on Mohamed Salah this summer amid the Egyptian's poor run of form.

Salah has struggled to match the heights reached during the first part of the season and has looked a shadow of himself since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with an injury. It was another quiet display from the 31-year-old on Wednesday evening as Liverpool fell to a 2-0 defeat at Everton, all but ending any hopes of winning the Premier League during Jurgen Klopp's final campaign at the club.

Salah has scored one goal from open play in his previous seven outings in all competitions and this slump in output has not been helped by Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz also struggling to convert chances. The Reds of course rejected a £150m bid for their talisman during the summer as Saudi Arabia interest emerged, though the temptation to cash in on Salah could be far stronger in the coming weeks having seemingly lost his way.

Urging Liverpool to do exactly that, Jordan told talkSPORT. "I think that Mo Salah has had a remarkable return for Liverpool and there is no doubt he is a top player, but I think his race is beginning to be run.

"I think there is so much behind this move to Saudi Arabia: being a Muslim, going to a Muslim country and the economics of all of that and the value of it. He didn't go last year and I think he will go this year," he added.

"I think it is time for Liverpool to close that chapter. I think Salah, to me, for the last four or five years has been a shadow of himself. And there are reasons behind it, injuries and stuff, I am not sure that is the only reason."

Salah has one year remaining on his current contract, which is set to expire in 2025. The Reds' No.11 was strongly linked with an exit during the summer of 2022, though penned a three-year extension to make him the highest-paid player in the club's history in the process.
