Liverpool may have more problems than they first thought after their 4-2 defeat to AC Milan.
The Reds have had a summer transfer window to remember and would have gone into pre-season more confident than ever.
However, after a rather disappointing loss, they may have taken a slight step back and felt the need to reassess certain areas of their team, with Arne Slot having some big decisions to make.
Of course, pre-season is not about results, but it is about experimenting and finding areas of weakness, although Slot will have identified more problems than he would have hoped.
With this in the forefront of his mind, the Dutchman also dropped a potential transfer hint about what is to come next, and fans may be a little concerned.

The Reds were left a little short against Milan for many reasons but especially in defence, with Joe Gomez being sent home due to injury, leaving just Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as the recognised centre-backs on the tour.
Wataru Endo was also absent through illness, meaning he could not fill in like he has before, hence why Ryan Gravenberch and Kostas Tsimikas were both deployed there at some point.
Despite being very thin in this department, Slot suggests that a new centre-back might not be needed, and this is despite all the rumours suggesting one will come in.

“I don’t think we have a concern at centre back,” Slot said, as per journalist Lewis Steele on his X account.

“Ryan [Gravenberch] showed he can play that position, he did it as well although we favour him as a No 6.
So we have enough options, but it is true that Jarell Quansah left and we haven’t replaced him yet.”
Liverpool were caught far too often on the counter-attack against Milan and they ended up scoring three goals because of it, with Slot’s update perhaps causing a little bit of concern.
Of course, there is still plenty of time to put things right, but defensive reinforcement might be required if they are to retain their Premier League title.
Slot may, of course, just be saying this as he does not want to reveal Liverpool’s transfer plans, with the Reds still heavily linked with a new centre-back.
Marc Guehi is the most prominent name rumoured and the Reds’ performance against Milan suggests that his arrival is needed more than ever.
Gomez is far too unreliable, meaning Liverpool have just two first-team centre-backs, and Guehi would be a third one that brings a lot of experience and quality with him.
The Englishman wants out of Crystal Palace and this could be his chance, with Liverpool perhaps thinking they should make a move for him now instead of on a free next summer due to this defensive crisis.
