The 18-year-old goalkeeper is rated highly at Liverpool and many feel he has the ability to become the first local lad to become a first-team goalkeeper at Anfield in more than 40 years.

Warner is all too aware of how it feels to be a local goalkeeper playing at Liverpool, but even failed to make a first-team appearance for the Reds despite making an astonishing 120 appearances on the bench.

The teenager has been impressive for the Liverpool Under-18s and he is being backed to break the duck of local goalkeepers failing to make the grade at Anfield in the coming years.

Warner told The Athletic: “At 18, Harvey is in the door, which is great but to make that final push… that’s where a lot of academy keepers will fall down.

The former goalkeeper stressed that Davies is being tipped to break into the team but feels at this stage of development many of the young goalkeepers fall by the wayside at Liverpool.

“If you can choose from a worldwide network of goalkeepers the odds are the best one you can find won’t be from on your doorstep.” Davies has spent all his career at Liverpool and is knocking at the door of a first-team call-up.

He stressed that the Reds have the option of bringing in young goalkeepers from across the world and it is getting increasingly difficult for local lads to nail down that position in the first team because the competition is too cutthroat.
