Marinos on Wednesday.

There has been plenty of excitement during the Reds’ two matches in Asia, with new signings such as Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike on display.

Some of Arne Slot’s questions ahead of the new season will have been answered as the Liverpool head coach attempts to retain the Premier League title.

One of those which may be starting to formulate for Slot is the dilemma of who will be Liverpool‘s starting right-back next season.

After the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, there is a natural vacuum within the Liverpool squad.

Jeremie Frimpong has been signed, while Conor Bradley looks ready to kick on to another level.

That they did so to sign an unorthodox right-back has muddied the waters slightly.

Frimpong can play as a right-sided attacker, and that’s where he featured during Saturday’s defeat to AC Milan.

However, the 24-year-old can also play at right-back, as he did on Wednesday, taking over duties after Bradley had put in a good shift in the first-half.

And though Bradley did well, Frimpong delivered an even better display.

The Netherlands international brilliantly set up Trey Nyoni for Liverpool’s go-ahead goal.

While this should not be enough to see him edge ahead of Bradley in Slot’s thinking alone, Frimpong generally looked a huge threat during the second-half, while also maintaining a semblance of defensive responsibility.

He has done all summer.

Of course, Liverpool will need both of these players throughout what will be a long season next term, but on the back of the evidence of pre-season so far, we think Frimpong has the shirt.

Although we believe Frimpong will be Liverpool’s first choice right-back in the longer term, Bradley still has loads to offer.

It is also likely that the Northern Irishman begins the season as Slot’s starting full-back, ensuring there is slightly less change to Liverpool’s starting XI than there needs to be.

But at 22, Bradley is also still a work in progress.

Frimpong will be given his chances, and we expect him to take them before cementing his place in the team.

It can only be a good thing for Liverpool to have two such quality players battling for one position.

While Bradley could still lay down his own claim before the season begins, it looks like Frimpong is starting to push ahead.
