Liverpool fans reacted in unison after a major update on their pursuit of Newcastle talisman Alexander Isak.

The Reds have enjoyed a busy summer window, with Liverpool breaking their club record to sign Florian Wirtz, and securing deals for Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong as they look to reshape the squad ahead of the new season.

But the business isn’t done yet as they have been heavily linked with a move for Newcastle’s star striker Isak over recent weeks.

Although an initial bid was rejected, Football Insider reported that they are now preparing a second offer as Liverpool could “shatter” the British transfer record in their pursuit of Isak.

Amid the speculation, Isak did not travel with the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of Asia, fuelling further rumours that he is pushing for a move away from St James’ Park.

Now, the latest development has sparked a wave of excitement among Liverpool fans, who have long seen the Swede as a potential marquee addition capable of leading the line.

According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie, although Isak has now returned to training, he was made to train separately from the rest of the Newcastle squad “as instructed by Eddie Howe”.

The club also hosted a “team bonding family day” at their training ground, but Isak was not invited to take part.

Talks are expected to follow in the coming days, with the Swedish forward pushing for a move away from St James’ Park.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will sanction an exit, particularly given their struggles in identifying suitable replacements.

Football Insider reported on 18 July that Newcastle believe Liverpool attempted to unsettle Isak by submitting an early bid last month — one that fell well short of the club’s £150 million valuation.

But with the striker now excluded from training sessions and omitted from pre-season preparations, it appears that strategy may have had the desired effect.

Liverpool fans have been quick to react to the latest development, with many believing the deal is edging closer as one supporter wrote: “More good news for us, Isak sidelined means we get him, matter of time” while another added: “Not even invited on a team bonding day… he’s definitely off.”
