Liverpool struggled against Bournemouth on the Premier League’s opening night but ultimately came away with a hard-fought win.
It was always going to be slightly tough for the Reds, with Anfield coming together to remember Diogo Jota before kick-off.
Had the emotions of that moment got the better of the Liverpool players, it would have been easy to understand.
The summer has been an incredibly difficult one for them.
Saying goodbye to a loved teammate in such a tragic way was not something anybody could have anticipated.
As well as the issues in dealing with the grief of Jota’s passing, though, Liverpool also look to have some things to work on tactically.
According to goalkeeper Alisson Becker, though, there are reasons for these problems which few people are choosing to acknowledge.

The summer transfer window has been a more exciting one than usual for Liverpool supporters, with their team doing plenty of business.
However, while it is thrilling to be adding new players to the Liverpool squad, there is a practical element of bedding them all in together.

On Friday, all four of the Reds’ new signings started against Bournemouth, with Milos Kerkez in particular struggling to get up to speed.
And speaking to NBC Sports after the game, Alisson said that a period of adaptation while the new boys settle in means Liverpool may have more up-and-down matches to come.

“I think it’s hard, not many people talk about the changes we had in the team often,” said the Brazilian.
“Everybody says how good our team is becoming with new players coming in but nobody talks about the challenge that this is and it is a big challenge.
Last season we had the challenge of changing the manager, but you keep the players so you know each other.
“Having new players to come in and changing a lot, today Ryan [Gravenberch] who is a really important player for us didn’t play as well, but everyone did amazingly well.”
Alisson is right to highlight the challenges of adding so many new players into a settled team, especially in defence.
It is part of the reason fans may have to just temper expectations for the season ever so slightly.
The pay-off from that is likely to be in a year or two years, as Arne Slot begins to properly shape his ideal Liverpool team.
In the meantime, fans may have to get used to some more upheaval, with the Reds expected to add one or two more players before transfer deadline day.
The Bournemouth game highlighted the need for Marc Guehi to join from Crystal Palace, while if Alexander Isak eventually arrives from Newcastle, he will be a certainty to go straight into the starting XI.
As they showed by dealing with adversity to win Friday’s match, Liverpool will hurdle these changes and still be challenging this season.
