Southampton could lower their demands for Tyler Dibling in the closing stages of the transfer window to invite fresh interest in his signature alongside Everton.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that he is “surprised” that a number of the clubs originally interested in the 19-year-old have not yet made a move.

Everton had been keen to land the winger, but are prepared to walk away from the deal as a result of his lofty price tag as they assess other options.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in August that Everton could drop their interest in Dibling after signing Jack Grealish.

However, the Saints academy graduate was left out of the club’s opening Championship fixture due to the speculation and could still be allowed to leave.

Football Insider revealed on 6 August that Southampton are preparing to lose Dibling and are working on signing his replacement amid interest in Tom Fellows.

Brown told Football Insider on 26 June that Newcastle and Tottenham want to sign Dibling but are waiting for his price tag to come down later in the window.

The likes of Man United, Chelsea, and a number of top clubs in Europe had also been considering deals for the winger before being put off of making a move.

O’Rourke explained that Southampton’s lofty asking price had deterred clubs from making offers, but they could step up their interest should that price drop.

“It’s been surprising,” he told Football Insider.

“When Dibling first broke into the Southampton team, there were a lot of links with a lot of the big clubs.

“Chelsea, Man United and a number of top European teams were interested in a move for Tyler Dibling, there was talk of that outrageous £100million price tag.

“Obviously, that has come down since then, but I’m surprised there hasn’t been more offers.

“It’s the valuation Southampton have put on him which is putting clubs off.

“Everton have made a couple of offers which have been rejected, and they aren’t willing to go to what Southampton are demanding for Dibling.

“In the past there have been so many big European clubs ready to move for him.

“Southampton have priced him out of a move, but if they drop that price tag between now and the end of the window, it might bring new offers to the table.

“He’s a young player with huge potential and I think he will only get better.”

Dibling is not the only player Everton could be set to miss out on in the closing stages of the transfer window, after Aston Villa made their stance on John McGinn clear.

Brown told Football Insider on 15 August that Villa will dismiss enquiries about McGinn out of hand and have no intention of letting him leave this summer.

Villa are believed to be open to offers for a number of key players as they aim to balance the books, but have no plans to let their captain leave.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 7 August that Newcastle have held preliminary talks about signing McGinn, but Villa have made their stance clear.
