The French international says he hopes to learn and evolve alongside the 25-year-old as he looks to be raring to play alongside the British-record arrival.

Ekitike doubled Liverpool's lead against Everton after firing beyond Jordan Pickford following an incisive pass from Ryan Gravenberch.

I always watched him before I came here.

"For me, him being here is good, I can learn, improve and it's competition but I know we're going to play together, make the difference.

One day I hope we can share a pitch.

"It's good [to play with him], it's the coach's problem [to pick the squad], me?

I just do my job, so it's good."

Ekitike's effort was enough to send Liverpool six points clear at the top of the Premier League ahead of this weekend's complement of fixtures.

There were instances where the Blues looked like they were going to become the latest team that Liverpool would surrender a lead to after Idrissa Gueye reduced the arrears.

Ekitike said that he felt 'proud' to have a key contribution in the Merseyside derby win, he continued: "Very good feeling, we knew it was going to be a tough game.

I was a bit lucky because it went through the goalkeepers legs but it was good."
