Ruben Amorim could already be out of time as Man United manager as the team prepares to face Burnley at Old Trafford.
Sources in Portugal have suggested that Amorim’s final game in charge could be against Burnley on Saturday, 30 August, as the Red Devils come into the game fresh from their defeat to Grimsby Town.
The 40-year-old has won just 37 per cent of his games since being appointed in November, finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, losing the Europa League final, and now being eliminated from the Carabao Cup.
Supporters have already lost patience with the former Sporting CP figure, with United still waiting for their first win of the 2025/26 campaign, and they are expected to change that against the Clarets.
While the Red Devils are favourites to defeat the newly promoted side, Scott Parker could cause an upset at Old Trafford, and Paul Merson believes that this could force the manager to walk away imminently.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (30 August, 12:12pm), Merson said: “Personally, I think if they don’t win today, he’ll go.
Man United won’t get rid of him, but he’ll go, ‘I’ve had enough’.
I think they win today, so it’s a nice game today.

“I’d be shocked if they lose today.
If they don’t win today, he walks.”
Having recently also spoken to the media, Amorim’s words about already thinking about quitting Man United were touched on, with the Sky Sports studio left baffled by the entire situation.

Football Insider verdict
For all of Amorim’s failures so far, being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two opposition is a brand-new low for the Portuguese manager, who remains on the edge.
He continues to change the squad, attempting to get rid of the remaining “bomb squad” of Antony, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Rasmus Hojlund, with Marcus Rashford joining Barcelona on loan.
Despite the plethora of changes, there have been few signs of improvement on the pitch, and time could quickly be running out for him to prove that he can lead United forward.
Club legend Wayne Rooney has even raised concerns over Amorim, and with more and more big-name figures speaking out about the situation, more and more pressure continues to build.
While beating Burnley at home will do very little to change fans’ minds on his torrid reign, he has an opportunity to show what his team can do under pressure, especially after a major setback.
This is the time that leading voices need to take charge, use emotion and pride to back up their performances, and keep Amorim from being replaced already.
