Jack Grealish has had a strong start to his career at Everton Football Club.

Jack Grealish explains why he confronted referee after Liverpool loss

Signed on loan from Manchester City in the summer, the former Aston Villa captain has slotted into David Moyes’ side effortlessly.

In a very short space of time, Grealish has become integral to the way that The Toffees play.

Even in today’s Merseyside derby, Jack Grealish was one of the most dangerous players on the pitch.

He created a number of openings and moves for his side despite them ending the game in defeat.

Arne Slot’s men eventually emerged victorious 2-1 at the end of the game, but the second half was a nervy period of time for most Reds.

And it seemed as if Jack Grealish wasn’t happy when the final whistle blew.

As soon as the game was over, Grealish confronted the referee and made his feelings known.

Alongside Everton manager David Moyes, the pair were visibly annoyed in the aftermath of the game’s conclusion and approached the match officials to make their point.

In the case of Jack Grealish, the attacker even received a yellow card for his protestations and had to be hauled away by teammate Jordan Pickford in case he picked up another card.

And the England international has explained why he was so angry at that point in time.

“It was a bit frustrating in the second half because they were trying to slow the game down at times,” Grealish told broadcaster TNT Sports.

“I’ve never seen a player in my whole life get booked for taking a quick free-kick.

“I don’t know where that rules come in.

“Even the stoppage time, what was it, three minutes and one minute?

“Come on, I’ve never seen that in the Premier League in the last two or three years”.

The yellow card that Jack Grealish is referring to was a bizarre incident where Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was given a booking for taking a free kick early for Everton.

When he was then asked if there were a few frustrations with the officials, Grealish stated, “Yeah of course.

“Listen, I get sometimes you want to let the game go.

“But then you can’t not give something for us and then two seconds later one of their defenders gets touched in the back, goes down and he gives it.

“I’m just like, you can’t do that.

“I get it, you come to these stadiums and the crowd are on you and I think they feel like they’ve got to give it.

“But like I said, I think Kiernan [Dewsbury-Hall] is now on four yellows, he’s only got one more [before a ban] and he gets a yellow today for taking a quick free-kick.

“We want to get the game going, we’re losing the game.

“I’ve never heard of that in my life”.

In fairness, it’s easy to see why the Everton man would be annoyed at that and the officials should have handled that incident with a bit more common sense.

Everton fans will be pleased that Pickford managed to get involved before Jack Grealish allowed his temper to get the better of him and made the situation any worse.

Liverpool fans will be pleased that The Reds have now notched five wins in the league in a row and have added another Merseyside victory to their tally.
