Daniel Farke may have discovered a new way of helping Jack Harrison to win back the respect of the Leeds United faithful this season.

Everton appear to have decided against re-signing the winger this summer, with David Moyes instead splashing the cash on Tyler Dibling and Jack Grealish’s loan deal from Man City.

Instead, the Whites have signed the likes of Noah Okafor, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach, and Lucas Perri, with many of the new players helping the team to an opening-day win over the Toffees.

However, that does not mean that Leeds have addressed all the weaknesses in their squad for the 2025/26 campaign, proven by their embarrassing Carabao Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday, 26 August.

Jayden Bogle scored a much-needed equaliser after Karl Darlow was forced into an own-goal at Hillsborough, but with both Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka injured, the team were often caught out in the transition.

That will not be the supporters’ biggest concern, though.

Huge questions were raised when the teamsheets were announced, with Harrison slotting in at left-back, surprisingly.

Even more unexpectedly, the 28-year-old thrived in the position, creating three big chances, one of which was a big chance, having three shots blocked, and delivering 18 crosses into the box [FotMob].

In addition to this, Harrison won 80 per cent of his ground duels, even winning a foul, made seven recoveries, and was clearly one of Leeds’ brighter performers against Championship opposition.

Following Junior Firpo’s departure to Real Betis, even after the signing of Gabriel Gudmundsson, the left-back spot remains a concern for the Premier League season ahead.

Injuries have already become a problem at Elland Road, with two major stars sidelined for several weeks, and one hit to Gudmundsson could leave the position totally vacant.

That is exactly why Harrison has a brand-new chance to win the fans back, given that he is facing similar anger that Brenden Aaronson was forced to overcome last season.

Fans have still not forgiven him for jumping ship after the Whites’ relegation to the Championship, but if he continues to prove himself as a versatile option for the manager, he is clearly ready to win hearts back at Elland Road.

It is likely to be an extremely difficult campaign for all involved in West Yorkshire, showcased by their 5-0 defeat to Arsenal, but it might be Harrison’s best season for the club yet as he attempts to rebuild his relationship at the club.
